Oil on Panel. 12 x 12 Inches.
I have been focused on painting cropped images of the human figure for some time. In my most recent work I documented many of the bruises I found on my body during the complete renovation of a burned out 1920s house. My husband and I did much of the hard labor ourselves--sledge hammers, pry bars, nails and debris were a huge part of our daily lives. I was delighted in the pathos of the bruise—a stormy, ethereal quality that was at once a representational fact and a complete abstraction.
