Portal

Oil on panel, 16 x 16 inches. The cat is a creature that traverses two worlds--the domestic, and the natural world beyond it, making it a metaphor for exploration, transition, mystery, and the collapsing of opposites, interior and exterior. Here a furry calico tail guides the eye into an uncertain spiral, and a heavy, black frame feels like a hatch or doorway of some kind, suggesting entry into an alternate consciousness.
